Babu Ji in NYC

One of my favorite places in New York to bring out-of-towners was Babu Ji, a vibrant and tiny restaurant focused on creative takes on Indian street food. Tucked away on Avenue B, they offered colorful and exciting fare, in the form of a chef's tasting menu or a la carte options, at an incredibly reasonable price. Sadly, the restaurant closed earlier this year and we were missing our beloved Babu Ji.

To my surprise, it reemerged near Union Square, back and bigger than before!

I've been back to the new iteration just once so far - an eagerly awaited reunion with a dear friend and our old pal Babu Ji. I'll certainly be headed there again soon with my taste-testing tesoro (an Italian term of endearment) and food-loving friends.

Babu Ji offers many gluten free options, including NAAN! Such a treat for a gluten-less girl. They've also added cocktails to their menu - the 'Don't Tell Auntie' was excellent.

The chef's tasting menu is my suggestion - whether you are new to the cuisine or a spice  superhero - at $62 per person you'll get a huge variety of delicious dishes. You can't go wrong.
